Do not injure

Athlete must not injure, if you are injured, you will never be the same even though you had recovered.

I had injured few weeks ago, had treatment for 6 times on my Achilles. Yesterday i went to have some games with my usual sparing partner. I felt that i am not use to the speed of the shuttles and i can't really go all the way out to play the game, this is mainly due to the phobia that instill in me when after i injured.

So Athletes, please take care of your body DO NOT INJURE, even your physically had recovered , but mentally may not heal so fast. Try to do more strength conditioning to strengthen up your body before going for intensive training.

Badminton vs Tennis statistic

Below is some of the information on badminton that i found on net, and i remember one of my coach told me that, if both player playing standard are almost the same, when they having a match with 2 to 3 sets, they can eventually cover up to 6km in the game.

Usually people that can't play well or have little knowledge in badminton will think that badminton court is so small demanding in fitness not as high when compare to tennis but they are wrong.

Time: Badminton =1 hour & 16 mins, tennis = 3 hours & 18 mins
Ball/Shuttle in Play: Badminton =37 mins, tennis = 18 mins
Match Intensity*:Badminton = 48 percent tennis = 9 percent
Rallies: Badminton =146 tennis = 299
Shots: Badminton =1972 tennis = 1004
Shots Per Rally: Badminton =13.5 tennis = 3.4
Distance Covered: Badminton = 4 miles = 6.44km ,tennis = 2miles = 3.22km

Badminton Facts/ badminton vs tennis

  1. Badminton require high aerobic stamina compare to tennis.
  2. Require lesser upper body strength compare to tennis.
  3. Require greater leg strength, due to demanding in multiple jump smash.
  4. Require greater explosive athleticism. Because it require to jump for height to hit the shuttlecock fast so opponent will have lesser time in reacting and decision making.
  5. Require fast reaction especially in double game compare to tennis because player must not let the shuttlecock to touch the ground.

Badminton is the world's fastest racket sports, because the shuttles can leave the racket upon hitting at a speed of up to 200mph

It was recorded that the fastest single game smashing was done by Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia at a speed of 305 km/h. Where as the fastest double game smashing was done by Fu Hai Feng of China at a speed of 332km/h.

Rules of badminton

The badminton playing rules had change over the years, it change from 15 points system with service over ( score to gain service ) women's singles 11 points system both must and matches are played to the best of 3sets -> 7 points system with service over best of 5 sets and back to 15 points system again in 2002.

In December 2005, the rules changed to 21 point system , played to the best of 3 sets. The winner of a rally scores a point regardless of who served. If the score reaches 20-20, the winner is the player or team with a two-point advantage. (note :when the server gain point he have to change to the other side of his court to serve, just remember odd score of his will be at the left , even score of his will stand at the right side of his court.

For example, both player A and player B reached 20-20, player A had to score constantly 2 points to make it 22-20 to win the set. IF player A did not did that, the score became 21-21, then it will have to add 2 points to make it 23 -21 to end the game. If the score goes up to 29-29, the winner is the first to reach 30 points.

As for double a team now has only one serve in doubles, rather than two under the old rules. Once the server team had gain a point server and his partner must switch side over to his partner half court.

Hope this help for badminton beginner
