Some Sport psychology training in badminton

1) Quickness trg means : the objective speed on hand, eye, leg and mind co-ordination required at that point on time. Example like the juggling of 2 shuttles in pushing. THIS IS TRAIN TO TRAIN PHASE.

2) Pre competition strategy means : throwing simulated events of game movement and giving quick answer on solutions to overcome the competitor's strategy. Example opponent is punching into your backcourt backhand and moving into offensive position, WHAT WILL YOU DO TO PREVENT THE OPPONENT FROM ACHEIVING HIS OBJECTIVE? THIS IS TRAIN TO COMPETE AND WIN PHASE.

3) Imagery technical movement means : If you have a wrong or unfavourable body movement to perform a technical shot like a backcourt lob. After being told by a coach to correct the movement you actually do this ITM to change your mind concept of the current movement to the new one. THIS IS TRAIN TO TRAIN PHASE.

4) Stress management means : You must be able to control your emotions after you have taught to do stress management. Example you go to the forest or beach on a day that you are very stress or uptight due to the coming exam or tournament. In the forest or beach you will concentrate to feel, smell, breath and listen to the envoirment around you. This will take at least half an hour. then you are ready to analyse the current position you are in and you are able to put every thing back to its place. THIS IS TRAIN TO COMPETE AND WIN PHASE

5) Risk management means : You will be taught when to take risk during a match. Example reading the lines when you are not confident to make a good delivery of the shuttle at the extreme backcourt due to wrong footing and you feel that it is out. This is train to compete and win phase.

Singapore open final

During singapore open, i went to watch this final game between Lee Chong wei and simon. It was not a very interesting game, as Lee Chong wei is gaining advantage and winning all his points easily. Simon was not in good form.

Simon was caught twice for the same shot, my friend and i was discussing, should he be caught? This is what it happened : Simon did a net stab, Lee Chong Wei performed a last mins cross court net, and Simon did not react at all. So my friends was saying, he should at least react such as try to brush the shuttle down or net back, because after performing a net stab, our mind should focusing incoming shuttles from the front court. This tell us that everyone make mistake even the world top player, non of the players is perfect.

what kind of badminton player are you ?

Basically there are 3 types of badminton player that i will classify them

1) Social athlete : Coming in for training late, not eaten, unprepared physical and mentally and also miss the warm up motor skills.

2) Competitive athlete : Come in early, do a few old man stretching and start to play. No objective and goal setting for that evening "TRAINING SESSION" so call. Mark attendance to keep abreast to the rules and regulation.

3) Elite athlete : Have an early meal. Carry a pair of skipping rope to train his/her plyometrics while waiting. Mentally and physically prepared for thetraining. Come 30 mins early to warm up and prepare to do the motor skills set by the coach. Set objective for that evening's training and give his/her 110% EFFORT on the drills and exercises given. Ask question by and offer feedback to trainer so to make improvement for the future training. Have a log book on the first day of training till he/she reaches the peak, so he/she can back track on what he/she have.

5 importants points to improve our badminton skills

1) WHEN TO STRIKE : upper box or mid box

2) YOUR DISTANCE BEFORE THE STRIKE : your best body position , example smashing should be at the top and centre of your head.

3) YOUR GRIP : holding racquet in upper grip for frontcourt, middle grip for midcourt and lower grip for backcourt

4) SPEED OF STRIKE : increase your striking speed every new day you train

5) DIRECTION OF DELIVERY : deliver shuttle to where there is a wider space (away from player)

Useage of technical badminton skills

This is how i define some of the useage of the skills in badminton visitor kindly leave your comment:

1) BACKHAND -- Backhand is used as an inter relatedskill covering your overhead. Example : If the situation demands an immediate offensive where the player sees an opportunity he will select an overhead offensive rather than using his backhand. On the other hand if the player is court with his wrong footing or rather late in moving to his backcourt he will use hisbackhand. Only a proper decisive selection makes the technical skill more effective according to the situation the player sees fit.

2) LOBBING --- Attacking lob is effective when the player sees the opponent coverage percentage is greater in the mid and mid-front court. As a result it became offensive to the opponent upon the corrective moment of usuage. As for clearing lob it is used when the player is late in moving to the backcourt or the shuttle pass his head. It is also use to move player to the deep backcourt and await for him to make an attack on the front court. (Setting opportunity to counter for theplayer)

3) Dropshot is applied when the player sees that the opponent percentage of coverage is at mid and mid-backcourt. It can be also applied to set an offensive strategy for the player to counter with a tap or a flip upon anticipation.

Interesting games against weaker player

Two days ago, i watch some video of Lee Chong Wei. After watching i feel like playing and doing good footwork like him. So i decide to call one of my friend, and he told me that i can join him and play some matches with some weaker player. I did not agree at the first place , because i was thinking that it may be quite boring to play with them. But i decide to go ahead, as i really can't find anyone to play with me.

During the game, i play quite relax, because they are really that strong, but i discovered something. These weaker player usually play differently compare to strong player which is so call going against the logical game play. For example, when the shuttle is so high at the net, they do not know how to tap it down, so they will net or lift to the back court. Sometime they will just hit a unexpected direction. So don't unestimate weaker player, because some of their shot is so unexpected.
